Hong Kong - Macau
香港 - 澳门
26th Oct - 28th Oct
with friends
It may seem that I've been going to Hong Kong a little too often!
This time, I was there to accompany my uni-mates who'll be in Hong Kong and Macau for a total of 5 days 4 nights. Five of them arrived in Macau on 25th of October, but I will be working on the 25th night, so I wasn't able to head to HK with them on that day itself. They were scheduled to land in Macau International Airport at 11.15am.
After finishing my training at 9am, I walked over to Cafe e Nata Margaret's to buy some Portugese Egg Tarts. I bought 2 boxes which costs MOP110. After that I went back home to shower and departed to the airport with Jason around 10.35am. I brought along 5 packs of VLT iced lemon tea for them as well!
We took bus 26 towards the airport and arrived at 11.20am. We were surprised to see that their flight has landed at 11.09am, and we wondered if they've already left the airport. But we figured 11 minutes is too short of a time to get off the plane, go through immigration and collect their check in luggage. So we waited at the arrival hall for them. We spotted a banner that stated 'Malaysia - XXX Tour Agent' right next to us, that's when we concluded that our friends must be still inside the immigration area.
I whatsapp-ed them for their whereabouts and after some time they replied that they're still waiting to go through immigration. We finally spotted them around 11.45am and surprised them on their way towards the taxi stand. I did not tell them in advance that we'll be waiting for them at the airport cause I'm not sure if my training would end on time.

Jason said we could walk over to the Taipa Ferry Terminal instead of taking taxi, so we consulted the airport concierge and was informed of the direction. We took the escalator up to the departure hall and halted at the waiting area for some chit chatting and trying out the egg tarts. Fortunately they loved the egg tarts and the ice lemon teas, phew did not waste my efforts of getting the two items in advance!
We walked towards the ferry terminal which took around 10-15 minutes. Jason and I bought the tickets with our hotel staff ID so we could get discounts for them. We divided the sum with 5, so each of them will pay only MOP134 instead of MOP154. They departed towards HK on the 1pm ferry, so Jason and I took the Emperor's Hotel shuttle back to our place to rest.
The next morning after work at 8am, I retrieved my backpack that I've stuffed in my locker and took bus 12 towards Macau Ferry Terminal. I caught on the 8.45am ferry towards HK, and slept throughout the journey. I made sure to remove my make up before sleeping just so I won't have black smudges on my face when I wake up later.

I arrived around 10am and went through the immigration without having to queue too long. I was quite devastated when I couldn't locate my HK SIM card which I was very positive that I've never took it out from my purse. After minutes of rummaging through every compartment of my purse, I concluded that I must have lost it or dropped it somewhere else. I headed towards 7-11 to purchase another SIM so I could get internet access to contact my friends. I purchased the HKD88 5-days package from CSL which include 1.5GB of data and unlimited wifi access to all their CSL hotspots.
P/S: I just found my HK SIM card at the bottom of my backpack. Arghhh |
I received their whatsapp message that they just arrived at a local shop to have breakfast, so I went over to Prince Edward MTR to meet up with them. However my friend, MeiYan who had purchased a HK SIM was not answering my call, so I had to search on Google Map for the direction towards the shop that they're at. But all effort was lost when I realized I went to the wrong branch and had to walk back towards the MTR station again. Turns out there's another branch right in front of the station exit. =.=
We walked towards their Airbnb to unpack my stuff. I've squeezed 3 shirts, 1 shorts, travel toothbrush kit, travel shampoo, bath gel, conditioner kit, sanitary pads, camera, suncreen, facial wash and a foldable luggage bag all into my handy backpack. After emptying most of my stuffs, my backpack felt so much lighter and comfortable.
We headed back to Prince Edward MTR station to travel towards Lai King station, which then we transferred towards Tung Chung station. Yes, we are heading toward Ngong Ping 360, or otherwise known as Lantau Island 大屿山. We purchased online tickets from Klook, which proved its convenience as we could queue at the cable car's pre-booked lane which is 3 times faster than the normal lane. However we still need to queue for a solid 25 minutes to reach the ticketing counter.

We had to redeem our tickets at the counter before we could ride the cable car. After getting our tickets, we proceeded to join the queue for the cable car ride together with everybody else. Donoven went for the souvenir machine where you deposits HKD10 and turn the wheel to produce a souvenir coin. But the souvenir coin was stranded inside the machine and couldn't come out, so the staff went to their office and brought out one for him.
We waited for another 30 minutes before we finally reach the front of the queue. One cable car is able to fit in 10 persons, so we squeezed in together with 4 other girls who're from the Philippines.
The ride up to the Ngong Ping Village took around 20 minutes. It was slightly cooling than ground level, but the heat is definitely still there.
We stopped by Subway for lunch, every other things was expensive, so Subway is the most ideal choice for lunch. I opted for the Roasted Chicken sub with Parmesan Oregano bread with all the toppings and honey mustard sauce. After our meal, we headed towards the Tian Tian Buddha Statue 天壇大佛 which is situated about a hundred or more steps up the plaza.
Juhann waited for us at the plaza cause he's not interested in climbing all the way up. It was tiring to walk up the stairs, but we finally made it after two rest breaks by the stairs. We spent about 15 minutes taking pictures from the top and wandering around the place.
We proceeded towards the Wisdom Path after that. Everybody was quite tired but it would be such a waste to not visit the Wisdom Path after so much trouble coming up the mountain. It took us around 15 minutes to walk there.
It was scorching hot and I really don't want to get tanned. So after taking a few pictures we all hid under the shade for 10 minutes before going back towards the plaza. We contemplated on whether to visit the temple cause everyone's feet hurts. But we decided to take a detour towards the temple a.k.a The Grand Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas cause it's just a few walks away from the way back to the cable cars.
We only looked into a part of the temple grounds and left after 5 minutes of poking around.

We then headed back towards the cable car station for another round of queuing. We waited for around 30 minutes until it's finally our turn. While waiting, I Googled on the best way to cover more ground in Tsim Sa Tsui area. I wanted to include the famous egg waffles, claypot dinner and shopping at Ladies St. After deciding our route, I briefed the gang and they all agreed to it.
As we walked back to the Tung Chung MTR, we stopped by the outlet mall for some shopping as MeiYan's feet is hurting badly. She only brought flats for this trip and it's torturing her feet. She ended up buying a pair of Adidas sport shoes. The rest of us walked around without buying anything as all of them are saving up for Ladies St.
We took the MTR back towards Tsim Sa Tsui station and took Exit J. I followed Google Map towards the Lee Keung Kee North Point Egg Waffle 利强记北角鸡蛋仔. Their main store is at North Point station, but they have a branch in TST. I was so excited when I spotted the stall with only 2 guests waiting and I immediately sprinted forward to join the queue. We ordered 2 egg waffles and 1 square waffle 格仔饼. We waited for about 10 minutes for our orders to be ready.

After done eating, we walked over to Temple Street for claypot rice dinner at Heng Kei 兴记. The place was quite packed but they arranged a table for us very fast. We ordered 3 claypot rices and 1 big portion of oyster omelette to share.
We ordered steamed chicken with chinese sausage, steamed chicken with mushroom and another one with purely chinese sausages. We're supposed to add in the soy sauce into the claypot rice and mix it up by ourselves, this way we could control how salty we want our rice to be.
After dinner, we walked towards Ladies St and Sneakers St. On the way there we spotted the YeeShun Milk Company 义顺牛奶公司. MeiYan was mentioning about their ginger milk dessert a few moments ago and we so happen to run into it. We decided to give it a try since we've found it haha. I've tried the ginger milk pudding in Macau once, but I don't appreciate the strong ginger taste.
I ordered their chocolate milk pudding, Juhann ordered the pudding with red bean while the rest tried their original milk pudding. My chocolate pudding was awesome, I wouldn't mind having it everyday!

We continued walking towards the Ladies St and was so excited when we finally arrived at our destination! The whole area is a shopping paradise, we were greeted by a huge H&M, and then flanked by so many make up stores, a huge Forever 21 and more make up stores! We passed by a snack stall and could smell stinky tofu, we vowed that we will come back for it after some shopping.
We entered a few make up stores and the girls finally went in for some real shopping at Sasa. So Don, Juhann and I walked back towards the snack stall and bought sinky tofu, and also deep fried intestines.

Only Don and I are eating, so I divided the tofu into 2 halves with the stick that was given to us, and spam all the sauces on it. It tastes alright I guess.
We visited the Sneakers St and I brought them to Kix Dreams where I've bought my Adidas SuperStar from a few months ago. Don was looking for a specific Jordan sneakers so I guess there would be his best bet. But that sneakers was out of season so they don't sell it there anymore. Hence we proceeded to other shops to look around. Don and Juhann was exhausted so they decided to head back home first. We separated from there and the girls said they'd like to go back to all the make up stores. Cadence told me earlier that she'd like to purchase some make up products from Jill Stuart and showed me the list of places that holds the brand. I spotted Langham Place in the list and brought them there at 9.45pm. We rushed over as we feared the shop would close at exactly 10pm. Fortunately there's still quite a lot of people mingling around the stores, and it did not show any signs of closing by the time we left with Cadence's Jill Stuart loots 30 minutes later.
We stopped by another Sasa outlet right outside Langham Place, and MeiYan and I bought soft serve ice cream cone from a very classic ice cream van.

Lan bought back 2 small cups of ice cream for the guys at home. After we're done with Sasa, we took the MTR back home, showered, joked around and crashed in to prepare for another long day tomorrow.
27th Oct
I slept around 12am, but woke up at 6am. I forced myself to sleep a little longer, cause I was awake for almost 28 hours the day before. I woke up again at my 7am alarm and went for a shower after Lan. We slowly prepared ourselves while the others wake up one after the other and had their turns to shower and change.
We left the house around 8.30am for breakfast at Kim Wah Restaurant 金华冰厅. I relied on Google Maps again to bring us there. We were fortunate to have seats as soon as we arrive. We're a total of 6 persons so they let us sit at the reserved booth for big groups. We ordered their famous polo buns, egg tarts and milk shake, plus other noodles and toasts to fill up ourselves.

After we're done with breakfast, we took the MTR towards Admiralty station for the shuttle bus towards Ocean Park. Locate the exit which states 'Bus to Ocean Park', and follow the crowd to queue for bus 629. I forgot how much the fare is exactly, but it's definitely less that HKD10 and can be paid with Octopus card.
It's a 30 minutes ride, and when we finally arrived at Ocean Park, we could see tour buses parked at the curb to drop off passengers and it was A LOT of passengers. We took the escalator up with everybody else, and stopped by the entrance to put on sunscreen. With the tickets that we've booked advanced from Klook, we were able to go straight to the entrance by showing the QR code. We took the park map and advanced from there.
The first attraction was the aquarium, as it was the nearest one to the park entrance. Even though it's quite early, there's still a queue to enter the aquarium.
The first attraction was the aquarium, as it was the nearest one to the park entrance. Even though it's quite early, there's still a queue to enter the aquarium.
After the aquarium, we went to visit the Panda which is located next to the aquarium. One of the pandas passed away so there's only 1 panda left. The SiChuan Golden Snub Nosed Monkey is located at the same place as well.
After that, we took the Ocean Express train up to the Thrill Mountain where we can finally take on wild rides! The train is quite fascinating as there's a short 'adventure' while the train moves. The train was portrayed as a submarine, and the emergency exit on the top of the submarine was plied open by an octopus and such. A kid cried cause it deemed too real for her.
As we alighted from the train, we queued for 'The Flash' which is a 360 degree swinging ride that resembles the 'Tomahawk' in Sunway Lagoon. Lan did not try the ride so she took care of our bags while we went to queue for it. After that we all went to the Whirly Bird ride that swings around and goes up and down. MeiYan puked after that ride, so we let her rest while we ride on the Rev Booster that rotates at a super fast speed round and round.
We went for lunch after that to sooth our stomachs. Four of them purchased the admission ticket which includes set meals, while Lan and I did not. We chose the Bayview restaurant that features a good view of the ocean. The four of them shared their meal with us, which is just right for the 6 of us cause their set meals comes in big portions. They ordered 2 salmons and 2 fried chicken cutlets.
We didn't want to go for rides right after lunch, so we walked around and found the Ocean Theatre with the seal and dolphin shows that is going to start in 10 minutes. We rushed in and found seats under the shades, which also has a good view of the stage.
Once we're done with the show, we went to the Adventure Land for the Raging River ride. Lan did not go for that ride, so she waited at the end of the ride for us. We took out our rain coats for that ride cause most of the people was soaked at the end.
When we're reunited with Lan, we saw a haunted house by Neway and decided to try it. We went in with this order: Juhann, Don, me, Cadence, Lan and MeiYan. I was holding on to Don all the time and closed my eyes throughout the entire journey. There's a part where we need to crawl through a tunnel with dogs barking at the side cages. I really don't enjoy haunted houses, and I guess that will be the last haunted house I'll ever visit in my life.
We walked back towards the Rainforest park and queued for The Rapids, where we all ride on a round bumper float together and go through a rapid stream. Luckily we all had our raincoats, but even with it on we're still soaked with all the random water sprouting out of no where.
After the ride, Juhann, Don and I went to queue for the Hair Riser, which seems like the biggest roller coaster in the park. We queued for a legit 45-60 minutes just to get on the ride. But it was so worth it!

So we decided to head back as we're all tired and their feet hurts. We met up with the rest and went towards the cable car station. There's only 3-4 groups ahead of us so we got our own cable car in no time. It was a tight fit for the 6 of us, but we made it through safe and sound. It was a super classic cable car, so we dare not move too much in fear that it might just fall off the cable.
We visited the souvenir shop and exited the park around 6pm. We immediately boarded the bus 629 to head back to Admiralty MTR. I was looking at my phone screen during the bus ride in order to sketch out a route plan for dinner cause they mentioned that they wanted to visit a dessert shop that makes rose petal shaped ice cream cones. I felt dizzy for a moment and decided to put my phone away to prevent myself from getting car sick. When we finally arrive at the station, I told them I need to puke and went to look for a toilet.
We looked all over the place but couldn't find one. So we went down to the MTR station in hope that there might be one inside. But there isn't. We got split up in the middle of the toilet search, and I simply don't have the energy to go search for them, especially when we've already entered the MTR barrier. MeiYan went out of the barrier to look for them and after 10 minutes we finally got together again. I gave up on searching for the toilet, so I proceeded to bring them towards our dinner place - Yat Lok Roast Goose 一乐烧鹅 nearby Central MTR. I searched on Google Map for the directions again, and fortunately I do not feel the repulsiveness to puke anymore.
We arrived at the place and waited for 10 minutes for seats. All of us ordered the same roast goose with rice which costs HKD55.

The roast goose was nice. I prefer this over the Kam Roast Goose that I had during my last visit to Hong Kong. After dinner, we went to look for the Ding Ding Tram station to go to Givres in Wan Chai. We walked for about 10 minutes and found one. All the tram routes passes by O'Brien Road station, so we could just hop on any tram that arrives first.
The tram entrance is at the back of the tram, and we only need to pay when we exit the tram through the front door. Payment is accepted in cash or Octopus card. We alighted at the O'Brien Road station and crossed the road towards the shopping area in between Spring Garden Lane and Amoy St. The area was beautifully lit with lights and trees.
We found Givres on the right hand side of the pavement. The 3 girls went in to choose which flavors they'd like to try while the other 3 of us waited outside on a bench. The store is too small to fit in all of us. After ordering we had to wait for awhile for them to construct the rose petal ice cream.
They ordered 3 two-flavored ice cream cones, namely sesame and tofu, white peach and orange, and also rose petal and strawberry.
Once we've done with our ice creams, the girls head over to Sasa for more shopping while the guys sat by the roadside waiting for us. After 30-45 minutes in there, we all head back towards Prince Edwards MTR for some rest. I wanted to try the Cheong Fan that they had on their first night, so they brought me over to Superior Steamed Rice Roll Pro Shop Limited 第一肠粉专卖店, which is 2 minutes walk from the MTR.
We finally went back home to rest after such a tiring long day. I wanted to try the cheese noodles at the opposite from the Cheong Fan shop, but Don said to not be crazy cause I'll be too stuffed with food.
After showering, I Googled up dim sum places to go for breakfast, cause they had not tried legit dim sum in HK yet. I searched on Lin Heung Dim Sum莲香楼, which is the oldest dim sum tea house in HK. I planned out some itinerary for the next day and decided to take a short nap. I asked them to wake me up once everybody has showered so I could brief them. But I slept through the night soundly. Too tired, heh.

28th October
I woke up at 6.30am and showered after Lan. We waited for everyone to wake up and get dressed for breakfast. We took the MTR towards Sheung Wan station and walked over to Lin Heung Tea House 莲香楼. We walked in and the place is super packed! We searched deeper for seats when the server came over and asked how many seats we need. We told him 6 and he placed us to join tables with 2 other diners.
After ordering our teas, we went to the steam trolleys to get dim sum for our table.

We walked over to the mid level escalators after breakfast to show them how it looks like. After that we headed back to the MTR station and split up again. The girls heads towards Wong Tai Sin and the guys go back home. We stopped by the temple for awhile before going into the mall for the air conditioning. The temple was flocked with people and it was so hot and humid. The girls shopped again at Sasa and we departed back home at 12.15pm. The guys are calling as we've passed the check out time at 12pm.
We rushed back and took our luggage for immediate check out. We took the MTR to go back to Sheung Wan again to catch the ferry back to Macau. We were able to purchase the 2.15pm ferry for HKD164 per person.
I slept through the ferry ride to prevent myself from getting sea sick. We arrived Macau an hour later and I led them towards the Rio Hotel shuttle pick up point. I personally took the Ponte 16 shuttle to go back home and drop off all my loots from Hong Kong. I took a quick shower and did my make up for work later at night. I did not plan to sleep before work cause I figures I would have a hard time doing so as I've already slept during the night. I then departed by taking bus 10 to Rio Hotel. The girls met me up at the lobby and we went to the restaurant for their complimentary dessert while I make plans for dinner with Jason.
After the dessert, I brought them out to see the ruins of St Paul. I took the route that passes by Grand Lisboa, just to show them the unique architecture. After that, I brought them to the famous small stall next to a parking lot near The Cathedral for Macau's version of egg waffles. I then brought them to look at The Cathedral and bought them the colorful drinks from Imperial Tea nearby.
After that, we made way towards Senado Square and ruins of St Paul. We got separated at the St Paul cause the guys does not want to climb the stairs up. They said they would wait at the bottom of the place but we couldn't find them after that. I spent 10-15 minutes walking to and fro the St Paul and the resting place near Laneige. I was so exhausted and tired that I really couldn't afford to look for them any longer. I can't blame the rest for not helping me to find them cause they don't know the streets very well and it would be even messier if more of us got separated.
I whatsapp-ed Don in hope that they might get access to WiFi somewhere, and fortunately they replied. We waited for him at the sitting area and when they finally appeared, I felt all my energy has drained completely. I bought a take away coffee to boost up my mental strength. Jason will be late to arrive but I just can't wait any longer. I took them to 陈光记烧腊 Chan Kwong Kei for their black pepper roast goose.
I ordered half of a black pepper roast goose, and a platter of the combination of Cha Siew 叉烧, Siu Yok 烧肉 and roasted chicken 油鸡. Halfway eating, Jason appeared and we finished off the rest. Jason paid for the dinner.

We then went to take Galaxy's shuttle and walked over to the Old Taipa Village from Galaxy Resort. We stopped by Dumbo Portugese Restaurant 小飞象 for another round of dinner, just so they could try Portugese food. MeiYan and I discussed the menu and placed order for 5 dishes. We ordered the fried cod fish cakes, shrimp fried rice, pork cutlet chop and grilled lamb with onion.
I had to leave after dinner for work so I split up with them from that point onward. Jason brought them to purchase biscuit souvenirs, then visited the Venetian for the canoe & river and also Parisian for the miniature Eiffel Tower. After those, they went back to their hotel for rest and sleep.
29th Oct
After work at 8am, most of them are still sleeping when I messaged them so I went over Rio Hotel to wait. We departed around 9am for dim sum breakfast at Ah Yat (DongVu) Restaurant 阿一(东湖), which is situated next to President Hotel. They felt quite sad that they didn't manage to have Siu Mai and Ha Gao when we went for dim sum in HK, so I brought them here to settle that craving. Fiona joined us for breakfast as well.
After breakfast, we parted ways cause I was really, super tired after another 27 hours of no-sleep situation. They have a plane to catch at noon, and as we finished breakfast it's already 10.30am. I left them to check out and depart for the airport by themselves. They really liked the Portugese Egg Tart that I bought them on the first day, and they've expressed their interest in bringing them back for their family as souvenir. So I thought to myself, if there's no queue when I walk by the shop, I'll buy and bring it to them.
Well there's no queue, so I bought 5 boxes, one for each of them, and took a taxi to the airport. I waited at the departure hall for nearly 45 minutes before they showed up with their luggage. I was almost dozing off at the waiting area. I passed them the egg tarts, had a cigarette with the guys and head back home for some proper rest.
That's all for the HK-Macau trip with my friends, tiring, very tiring indeed.
