Today, I'm gonna tell you a love story.
It was the first day of work. And similar to every other work places she has been to, it started with an orientation.
She doesn't talk much. In fact, you could consider her an introvert.
But she promised herself she would try to be more expressive. To make friends. To step out of her comfort zone.
And so she did.
The day went on smoothly. She enjoyed interacting with people she has never met before in her life. She ended the day feeling content.
Little did she know, on that day itself, someone has crept into her life.
Someone who will eventually mean the world to her.
Someone whom she would consider spending her entire life with.
It is mandatory for the newbies to go through training before they could start working. He was with her through the lessons. They hardly spoke to each other though. The moments they had together were always spent with a group of people.
But there are still some brief interactions between them.
Interaction #1 - Umbrella
It was raining. Lunch time. They walked towards the hawker center in a group of four, and only the both of them had umbrellas.
So when it's time to walk in the rain, they looked at each other. She was holding her own umbrella, and the other girl in the group was holding his. Naturally, she grabbed another girl who does not have an umbrella, and sheltered her towards the hawker center. Leaving him to walk behind with the other girl who was holding his umbrella.
That might be the first time they actually looked into each other's eyes.
Interaction #2 - Rest
She was feeling particularly tired that day. So instead of going to the pantry during tea time, she tried to get some sleep on her desk. She rested her head on her folded arms and closed her eyes. She was aware that he came back to the classroom shortly after that.
Two other people came in and started talking loudly beside her. She wasn't really bothered by it, but he spoke out for her. He asked them to be considerate as someone is trying to get some rest.
The duo then walked out the classroom. She didn't acknowledge the incident, and continued with her nap. But of course, she was secretly delighted that he expressed his concern.
Interaction #3 - Spectacles
She was short-sighted, but she rarely wore her spectacles. She had a hard time looking at the projected screens in front of the classroom, so she started bringing her specs to her lessons.
During lunch, he approached her and asked: 'You wore spectacles?'
She replied :'Yea, I do'
With that, she walked away.
She wasn't trying to be rude, but the conversation took place in a narrow walkway and it's getting crowded with people squeezing past each other.
That might be the first time they had a one-on-one conversation.
Interaction #4 - Being early
The training period is coming to an end, and that means assessments are coming soon. She woke up real early that day just so she could spend more time in the classroom making notes and study. She does not have a proper writing table in her rented room, so she wasn't able to focus by studying on her bed.
As she focused on turning pages and scribbling notes, he walked into the classroom. He seemed to halt slightly when he saw her. Apparently he wasn't expecting anyone to be present in the classroom before him. He walked over to catch a glimpse of what she's doing. 'You're really studying.' he said.
She smiled.
Interaction #5 - After class
It was a day before the assessment. She decided to stay back after class to finish up her notes. Several classmates stayed behind too, including him. She was trying to get work done but couldn't help sneaking peeks at him. After quite some time, some of them packed up to grab dinner. They invited him, and he left with them. Sigh. Imagine her disappointment that he's no longer in the same room.
Interaction #6 - Contact
She left the classroom earlier than planned because the place just felt eerie with her alone in it. Plus it's dark outside and the windows reflected everything in the classroom. She jumped seeing her own reflection in it. So she packed up and left before 8pm.
She was waiting for her bus. Exhausted.
Ding.
She looked at the notification on her phone. It was him.
Trying her best to contain her excitement, she replied. And the rest was history.

They got together that night itself.
10 January 2018.
It was epic. And some of their friends were startled because it happened so suddenly and too quickly.
But they believed it would work out well.
