We went for a spontaneous afternoon tea session on Sunday.
Both Jason and I coincidentally had the same rest day,
and we had nothing better to do.
So we decided to go for high-tea at Mandarin Oriental, Macau.
We took bus 3A, and alighted at Av 24 de Junho/R.Do.Porto,
we then walked over to MO through MGM.
Their afternoon tea is served at the Vida Rica Bar,
where you can choose to dine at the lobby level,
or the second floor where you can see the Macau Tower.
Well of course we went up to the second floor!
I was so psyched we got seats by the window,
where we were staring right at the Macau Tower.

Sorry but this post is gonna include a whole butt load of pictures,
cause I've done nothing but eat and snap pictures the entire time!
They only serve one standard style of afternoon tea set,
I have included the menu up there.
It costs MOP 498 + 10% service charge for 2 persons,
which equals to a total of MOP 547.80
Personally I felt it was quite pricey,
I mean, I'm not quite the afternoon tea person.
But given the gorgeous view and beautiful interior deco,
it's worth that money brah!
Other than the standard afternoon tea set,
they do offer some other a la carte snacks as well.
But we chose the set, duh!
Each of us is entitled to a choice of tea or coffee.
I ordered the Rose Peony tea cause it sounds fancy.

I brought along my Casio camera,
cause it has been sitting in the dust for almost 3 months!
I have to bring it out for more action,
otherwise it would lose its self worth of being a camera.
I had a good 5 cups or so before the tea pot goes empty.
The afternoon tea set came in a three-tiered rack which was fitted with wood log patterned disks,
and it looked so cool!

I mean, the Macau Tower is there for a reason ain't it?
How could I not include it in every picture I took?
Oh, and there's scones as well.!
Apparently there's two types of scones:
raisin scone and spring onion scone.
I didn't notice there are two types of scones on that plate just by looking at it,
but I distinctly remember one of 'em tasted more savory/salty.

The scones are served with four dipping sauces:
Clotted Cream
Raspberry Jam
Orange Passion Jam
Honey
I loved the clotted cream,
it's cream! Who doesn't love cream?
I could eat cream just on its own.
We devoured our afternoon tea set starting from the first tier.

Kurobuta Pork 'Xiao Long Pau'
It tasted like every other XLBs. There's nothing unique in taste, but the black XLB skin is definitely eye catching. The soup and meat inside is not scorching hot, which I appreciated whole-heartedly. I'm sick of scalding my tongue every week with everything I eat.

Boston Lobster with Roasted Cauliflower and Yuzu Mayonnaise
This was served on top of a zig-zagged soft cracker. The lobster tasted very refreshing. I'm not sure which flower's petals were on top of the lobster, but it gives a slight bitter taste which actually spices up the palate. I mean, the lobster itself does not offer any depths in flavor, but the bitterness of the petals made the dish...'not quite boring'.
Moving on to the second tier!

Wagyu Beef with Foie Gras Spread and Onion Jam
The beef was served with a medium doneness, which is slightly chewy, and not hard to the tooth. It was served with cucumbers and sweet red onions. This canape as a whole is alright-ish. Again, nothing can go wrong with beef. The cucumber and onion gives a crisp texture which makes it interesting to savor.

Truffle Duck Rillette with Orange Butter and Brioche Bread
This canape was unique cause the first bite you get was the juicy orange, and then you move on to the duck, and then you end with another orange to cut the meat after-taste in your palate. The duck was tender, which is a plus point cause ducks are almost always overcooked.
Moving on to the final tier! Desserts!

Strawberry Tartlet
At first glance I thought it was a huge ass strawberry sitting on a mini tartlet. Only when I bite in did I realize that they're actually quartered strawberry slices arranged in a rather fancy way. I did not pay attention to the green bits at the base of the strawberry though. Oops. I guess it does not contribute any significant flavor to the dessert.

Mandarin Panna Cotta
I did not read through the menu upon ordering the afternoon tea set, so I did not know what we're going to get until the food enters my mouth. So when I look at this tiny glass of pudding, I thought it should be mango and milk pudding. But when I tried the top layer, it strangely tasted citrus-y, but at the same time I could somehow feel the existence of mango in there. So I scooped up more, and thought 'is it orange?' Surprisingly when I reached the center of the panna cotta, a section of orange peered into view, and I was like 'Oh! It IS orange!'.
You see, to me panna cotta always pairs up with fruits which is not watery, such as berries or mangoes. And this is the first time I had mandarin orange panna cotta! Awesome.

Pistachio and Raspberry Financier
At first I thought it was a green tea flavored cake. But there's no green tea nor pistachio vibes in it. However, I'm positive I could taste almonds in there. I'm not a big fan of almonds, but this financier is alright I guess.

Sesame and Praline Mousse
It's CHOCOLATE. MOUSE.
*mic drop*
no adjectives can describe the awesomeness of chocolate.
And this concludes my blog post on the afternoon tea set at Vida Rica Bar, Mandarin Oriental Macau.
I love fancy stuffs like this,
but it doesn't really fill my tummy...
but I had chocolate at the end,
so it's all good.
Peace out
