I just found out that they're called 'Ai Xuan' when I'm going through their location on Google Maps. I hope it's not wrong cause I don't wish my review to state the wrong place. hee
My dad brought us here during our teenage years. And the one dish that we all remember to date is their boiled octopus.
My bro was craving for their octopus when he came back from UK. Hence off we go hunting for it!
It's located in Butterworth, and we're from Penang Island. So we're not familiar with the road, and so we relied on Waze to bring us there. It's a 25 minutes drive from Butterworth's end of the first Penang Bridge.

Their stall is located in their kampung styled wooden house with tables and chairs in front of it. You'll be able to see motorcycles parked right outside of it and cars parked in however narrow spaces available nearby.
As you can see in the picture above, there's a refrigerator on the left side of their cooking area.
All you need to do, is to pick up a metal plate/tray by the refrigerator and start piling up ingredients that you want. They have an assortment of meat balls, seafood and vegetables.
After you're done choosing your ingredients, bring your plate to the cooking area, and tell them the type of noodle and type of soup that you want.

And of course their boiled octopus costs

My bro and I ordered a bowl of noodles each, while my mum had their porridge.

My bro and I ordered a bowl of noodles each, while my mum had their porridge.
I ordered Tom Yam Maggie, with added sausages, meat ball, crabsticks, seafood tofu, thin pork slices, fried fish slices, enoki mushroom and minced meatball.
Their fried fish slices are too dry and hard to chew. But the tomyam soup base is VERY satisfying. I didn't finish off the soup, so my bro took it from me and finished it.

My bro ordered Mee Hoon with clear soup broth and crabsticks, oyster mushroom, thin pork slices, fish cakes and some other stuffs that I'm not sure of.
My bro said their clear soup has nothing to shout about. He prefers my tomyam soup base.

My mum had their porridge with minced meat ball, fish ball and prawns. Their porridge is average as well, it's just like what we could get at any other places.
And not to forget, the plate of boiled octopus. The octopus is very crunchy and crisp. Their homemade sauce is a must try! It's slightly spicy and tangy with a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top. Both octopus and the sauce complements each other very well.
The picture above shows the large serving for RM12. We had two large servings by the way.

They have only 2 choices of beverage: chrysanthemum (菊花) and Luo Han Guo (罗汉果). Both are homemade as well. They're very refreshing and cooling after my bowl of tomyam soup.
Our meal costs RM78.50 in total.
The stall owners speak Hokkien and Mandarin.
Because it's quite far from our home, so we only come here once in a while when we're craving for their boiled octopus.
If you're in Batu Kawan or somewhere nearby, you can give it a try, but bear in mind that they're only open for dinner (5pm - 11:45pm). Their tables are always full, so you might have to wait for a while if you're there during dinner time.
